The Innovation Department at Sheffield Children’s Trust provides a highly unique service to children with a wide range of conditions.

At Art+, we wanted to give it an identity that reflected this multidisciplinary service and to respond to the breadth of needs that our young people and their families face. We worked with artist Jon Cannon and the team at Clinical Research to develop a design that was directly informed by our patients’ experience through a series of workshops.

Through a holistic approach to the design, Jon has established a calming colour palette, rhythmic minimalist motifs and complimentary furnishings. A dedicated patient sensory room was created along with a bedroom for parents who need to stay overnight. The resulting patient journey is as low stimulus as possible ensuring that the route to hospital is easy as possible for those with sensory needs.
