Haematology and Oncology

As a regional centre for children's cancer treatment, Sheffield Children’s Hospital had outgrown its facilities. In 2018, the hospital trust built a new state of the art Haematology and Oncology Unit at Western Bank with five times the treatment space of the previous clinic and inspiring views over Weston Park.

Art+ worked with the architects, patients and staff on developing a joyful art scheme across the department with Australian artist, Leah Bartholomew. Responding to the parkland just outside the windows, Leah's artwork extends across the walls, doors and ceilings, bringing nature indoors.

This extensive project also included the commissioning of an interactive artwork by Invisible Flock. Responding to the children's movements, the video performs like a playful shadow, keeping patients distracted whilst they wait.
